Fred Aldous Ltd - Christmas Campaign
Brief:
To create 8 designs that could be for any sort of advertisement like billboard, magazine, bus stop, etc. for Fred Aldous Ltd’s Christmas campaign.
Client Profile:
Fred Aldous Ltd are an English retailer, selling stationary and art supplies. They’ve been established since 1886 and pride themselves on their long running services.
Fred Aldous Ltd are a small company which have 2 large stores in Leeds and Manchester. They pride themselves in being down to earth with real customer service at their core.
Album Re-Designs
Brief:
To re-design album covers using a design software that I was unfamiliar with in order to gain understanding and grow confidence with said software
What I did:
I had only ever used Adobe Illustrator once previously and I had hardly learnt any skills, therefore I thought it crucial to use this task to explore this software. However due to never using it before I was advised to make a multi-media piece using illustrator to draw, design the majority of the piece and use Photoshop to assemble the actual covers. I found this incredibly useful and insightful for gaining experience on the software.
Southern Water- Beauty of the Beach Campaign
Brief:
To create an informative leaflet for the Beauty of the Beach campaign using Southern Waters design bank on Illustrator.
Wedding Invitations and Seating Plan
Brief:
To create sophisticated wedding invitations that went with the colour scheme and included red roses and a poem chosen by the client
What I did:
Combining my passion for drawing and painting I hand drew and painted the roses, scanning them in and adding them to this design. As they wanted a sophisticated design I chose to keep it very minimal to give the clean cut feel and edit the colours within the painting to be the main stand out feature. The clients were impressed with the design and asked me to even do their seating chart in the same design.
Metier Magazine
Brief:
A successful portfolio will demonstrate your ability to understand the magazine marketplace and develop ideas for new periodical publications with recognised audiences and design styles.
You will be assessed on the originality of your concept, together with design skills and accurately subbed content. The choice of material chosen – pictures, copy etc – will also be assessed in terms of suitability for the target market. You will also be assessed on your ability to understand a prospective audience.
Metier:
I chose to make a magazine called Metier, an art magazine aimed towards students. Although it was aimed towards students, after conducting my own research I decided the house style of the magazine would be minimalist to give a contemporary, luxury feel to the magazine. I decided that even though the magazine was aimed towards students, I wanted it to be a coffee table magazine that was more sophisticated than most student magazines.
Book Cover Designs
Brief:
You are to create cover designs for the front cover, back cover and spine of 3 different books. The books could be fiction, non-fiction, or even a textbook.
The Book designs are to incorporate original photographic images shot by yourself for the purpose of this assignment. The images used should reinforce the design style and visually communicate an appropriate mood and concept.

Design a business card for “Bright Ideas Design”
Client Profile:
They are a young, funky company, and would like the business card to reflect that image.
